Mike Mika

Sports Law, particularly player contracts, has always been an area of interest for Mike.  Through first hand experience as a player in NZ and the UK, brought home to him the paramount importance of players being aware of terms and conditions of playing contracts.  This has not changed since his playing days in the formative years of professional rugby.

MIKE MIKA (contracts Manager)

Talofa!

Mike Mika is a lawyer at Preston Russell Law based in Invercargill, New Zealand and is excited to be part of the Roar team.

Mikes expertise are:

  • Sports Law, specialising in rugby contracts
  • Dealing with rugby agents, in NZ and overseas
  • Crown Counsel in criminal proceedings
  • Family Law, including Separation, Relationship Property matters and Care and Contact of Children
  •  Immigration Law, temporary Visas, residency applications

Sports Law, particularly player contracts, has always been an area of interest for Mike.  Through first hand experience as a player in NZ and the UK, brought home to him the paramount importance of players being aware of terms and conditions of playing contracts.  This has not changed since his playing days in the formative years of professional rugby.  If anything, it is even more important for players now, particularly our younger players, to be fully informed before entering into contracts.

As a player Mike played in NZ for Otago (92-96), Southland (97-98), NZ Universites (93-95) and the Highlanders (96-98).  He represented Manu Samoa at the 1995 and 1999 Rugby World Cups.  In the UK Mike played for Coventry RFC (99-03).

Being part of the Roar team combines Mike's passions for sport and ensuring players can make informed decisions regarding contracts that are put in front of them.  This includes being aware of their rights and, just as importantly, their obligations under contracts.
